Organisational Development

Organizational Development (OD) is a planned, systematic approach to improving organizational effectiveness and health through interventions in its processes, structures, culture, and people. It is grounded in behavioral science and focuses on fostering positive change, continuous improvement, and long-term growth within an organization.

The concept of OD emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, building on the work of social scientists like Kurt Lewin, who introduced key ideas such as group dynamics, change processes, and action research. OD was initially developed to address organizational problems such as low productivity, poor communication, and resistance to change by focusing on people and the systems in which they work.

OD is not about quick fixes or one-time changes. Rather, it is a long-term effort led by top management and supported by organizational members at all levels. It involves assessing the current state of the organization, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing change initiatives that are sustainable and aligned with organizational goals.
